Some Frequently Asked Questions

If you would like an excellent explanation of how an air conditioner works from a simplified perspective:

Visit this website on- How Stuff Works for a simple explanation.

I  heard that attic ventilation is important for the most efficient operation of your air conditioner, why?

Without proper attic ventilation your house will probably feel like it is never able to be comfortable on a really hot day. The heat that builds up in a poorly ventilated attic impairs your air conditioners attempt at cooling much of anything by continuing to keep heat trapped near conditioned spaces, and air conditioning equipment. If the heat outside is 85-90 degrees you can be sure it will be 140 degrees or more in your un-ventilated attic. All that heat is trapped right above all the conditioned rooms that you are trying to cool, AND, its also trapped next to your air handler and ductwork which is taking on heat from the attic as well.

Higher energy efficient heat pumps and air conditioning systems often cost more to buy. Why would I want to buy one?

Buying a high-efficiency heat pump or air conditioner is an economically and environmentally responsible decision. Equipment with higher energy efficiency ratings also :

  • use less energy, which helps conserve non-renewable resources and contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions;
  • accumulates savings over its lifetime from lower energy use
  • has other advantages: they can cost less to operate, have more efficient motors and fans than standard efficiency systems
  • sometimes has a longer and more comprehensive warranty

How often should I have my equipment serviced?

Heating and Air Conditioning equipment should be serviced at least once a year, but we recommend twice a year. The best scenario is to have the heating system checked in the Fall and the air conditioning checked in the Spring. 2 yearly checkups are included in our Annual Maintenance Contracts
